Dear Irish Community,

Before the holiday break, I met with Jon Metzger who informed me that he would like to pursue other career interests and would be leaving his position as Athletic Director of Catholic Central on March 22, 2024.

In my three and a half years of working with Jon, I have seen a concerted effort to improve our Athletic Department facilities and amenities to make the experience for our student-athletes inspiring and fulfilling. Under Jon’s tenure, our gymnasium has received new scoreboards, new overhead lighting, and game court backboards, as well as new wall signage commemorating the success and traditions of our athletic history and our athletes. In our plan, we intend to give the gymnasium a new facelift in the summer of 2024. Jon’s efforts have not been limited to the facilities at 1200 E. High Street, as in the summer of 2022, Hallinean Field received a brand new scoreboard.

In this period of working together, through the generosity and support of our alumni and benefactors, our student-athletes have seen a brand new locker room added. In addition, we introduced a state-of-the-art Fitness and Wellness Center for our students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

Through Jon’s leadership, Catholic Central has been able to organize and streamline the fundraising activities for the Athletic Department. For the past two years, the Catholic Central Athletic Department has spearheaded the parking and ticket sales at the Clark County Fair. Jon’s leadership has required him to coordinate and recruit many volunteers for these nine days in July. This has coincided with the introduction of the new Green & Gold Club (formerly PTO & Boosters) and assisted in defining its purpose of providing support for our faculty, staff, and students.

Lastly, Jon has been a key partner in the development and integration of the student-athlete eligibility program. This program has allowed our students and teachers to work together and ensure continued academic success and participation.

On a personal note, I am appreciative of the effort that Jon has given to the Catholic Central community, our league partners, and our students and faculty. In the 4 years that we have worked together, I could count on Jon to be so welcoming and friendly to all who came to watch the Irish. Although we won’t see him leading the Athletic Department, we will still see him coaching and mentoring the Irish baseball players. Please join me in extending my best wishes and success to Jon in his future endeavors.

God bless, Go Irish,

Mike
