Early Learning and Benchmarking

Catholic Central Preschool

We would like to thank you for the opportunity to share this special time with your child.

We believe that what is most important in these early years of a child’s development is to provide a safe, healthy, and loving environment with an emphasis on Christian values. Our Catholic Central Preschool program concentrates on the spiritual, emotional, physical, social, and cognitive growth of the whole child. We value play as a viable learning tool, and through child-directed, process-oriented play, children will learn to share, develop problem-solving skills, math and science skills, social, physical, pre-reading, and language skills. Our preschool curriculum is prepared to conform to the Ohio Department of Education Early Learning Standards, which are aligned with the learning benchmarks for Kindergarten through Grade 12.

Catholic Central Preschool classes focus on socialization, independence, creativity, exploration, sharing, spiritual development, and learning to work and play within a group setting.

Preschool Programs

PK-3

STATEMENT OF GOALS AND PURPOSES

PK-3 will meet on Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. The child must be three years old by June 1, 2020 and must be potty trained. We will offer your child a safe, healthy, and loving environment with an emphasis on Christian values. We use The Creative Curriculum for Preschool as a blueprint for planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate program. In addition, Catholic Central Preschool teachers plan their lessons to comply with the Ohio Department of Education Early Learning standards for English Language Arts, Social Studies, Science and Mathematics. This class will focus on socialization, independence, creativity, exploration, sharing, spiritual development and learning to work and play within a group setting. This class has a special emphasis on play as a viable learning tool. Children are given opportunities for play with puzzles, art materials, dramatic play, books, blocks, math and science activities, stories and flannelboard activities, and creative movement. Activities are planned to encourage large and small muscle development, self-esteem, and positive feelings toward learning. Specific Goals and Objectives for The Creative Curriculum are attached to this Parent Handbook and can be found posted outside and inside each classroom.

Our religious education program is designed to enhance the child’s appreciation of the gifts God has given us, i.e., family, community, self, nature, animals, celebration of holidays, friendship, and the world around us. We use the Sadlier Faith-Development Program for Three Year Olds – Discovering God’s Child. This program uses literature, song, movement, discussion, prayer, art, and a loving and caring example set by the preschool teachers.

Tuition for the class is $1,305 per year. There is a non-refundable registration fee of $100. Parents will sign a Tuition Payment Preference Form indicating their intention to pay tuition in one full payment, a 60/40 payment option, or in monthly payments. All tuition payments and arrangements are made through the Business Office at 937-325-9204 ext. 114. Our maximum enrollment for this class is 18 children. We have two teachers, giving us a child/teacher ratio of 9:1. The state maximum for this age group is 12:1.

We also use the Happily Ever After reading readiness program. This is a program with children’s literature at heart. Happily Ever After gives children the foundation to begin reading instruction with the SuperKids Reading Program, which is utilized in grades K through 2.

This age-appropriate class focuses on Kindergarten readiness by including subjects such as alphabet, music, early math concepts, shapes, colors, cooking, etc. This program also emphasizes play as a viable learning tool. This is accomplished by providing opportunities for your child to play with puzzles, blocks, a housekeeping area, sand and water table, self-directed art materials, books, dolls, etc. Socialization, independence, problem-solving, language development, exploration, creativity, and spiritual development are additional goals of this program.

Our religious education program is designed to enhance the child’s appreciation of the gifts God has given us, i.e., family, community, self, nature, celebration of holidays, friendship, and the world around us.
